RoomMate App
RoomMate is a mobile app concept designed to simplify communication and coordination among people living in shared households. The project addresses a common issue in shared living: roommates are not always close, which can make it uncomfortable or frustrating to share personal contact information, manage responsibilities, or communicate across multiple platforms.
The app brings essential household functions into a single, neutral space. Users can create a shared “room,” invite members, and manage announcements, chores, expenses, and messaging without exchanging personal phone numbers or social accounts. This structure reduces friction while maintaining clear boundaries between personal and shared communication.
Key features include chore management with task assignment and point-based tracking, a shared expense tracker, household announcements, a group chat, and a shared calendar. These tools are designed to make responsibilities visible and reduce misunderstandings, while keeping interactions lightweight and functional. A customizable character system adds a friendly layer of personalization without relying on real identities, helping the app feel approachable rather than intrusive.
The interface prioritizes clarity, playfulness, and ease of use. Soft colors, rounded forms, and large touch targets create an inviting experience, while information hierarchy ensures that tasks, updates, and messages are easy to scan. The overall design balances practicality with warmth, supporting everyday coordination without increasing social pressure.
RoomMate demonstrates how thoughtful interaction design can improve shared living by replacing fragmented tools with a single, purpose-built platform that respects privacy, boundaries, and usability.
